Augmentation (Implants)

Breast augmentation

Breast Augmentation- Breast augmentation or mammoplasty is a surgical procedure used to enlarge small breasts and rebalance breasts of different size or proportion. Breast implants are used to add fullness to breasts that have decreased in size or begun to sag due to age or pregnancy.

Breast implant options basically can be narrowed down to two types: silicone gel and saline (salt water) filled. The FDA recently approved a new, improved generation of silicone gel breast implants. Dr. Poser will discuss with you what option is best for you.  This procedure can usually be done in one-day surgery as an out-patient procedure. Most women are able to return to regular activities in four days. Dr. Poser also performs liposuctiontummy tuck, and weight loss procedures regularly.

Breast Lift

Time can take its toll on the breasts through pregnancy, nursing and natural aging.  Heredity can also be a factor in the shape of a woman’s breast.  If you feel you have lost the youthful shape and firmness of your breasts, a procedure called a mastopexy or Breast Lift, can raise and reshape sagging breast.  A breast enlargement procedure can be done at the same time to provide additional fullness.

Breast reduction- mammoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reduce overly large breasts to a more comfortable size and contour. Such surgery is indicated when unusually large breasts cause pain in the breast, back, and lower back. Typically, the desired result is smaller, better shaped breasts that are proportioned with the rest of the body.

Breast Reconstruction

Recent advancements in the art and science of reconstructing the breast, including using the body’s own tissues from the abdomen or a prosthesis, provide options for women facing mastectomy. Prior to surgery, reconstruction techniques can be discussed and a plan devised to determine which option best fits each patient’s needs and desires.

Male Breast Reduction – Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is the medical term for over-developed male breasts. It’s much more common than is generally recognized, affecting an estimated forty-sixty percent of men, especially those over fifty. The causes for male breast enlargement are many. It can result from heavy exercise, a family predisposition, or steroid use. When someone loses total body weight, sometimes the breast glands retain a certain amount of fat. There are also certain medical conditions and drugs that can cause enlarged breasts.

New techniques have been developed which allow easy removal of this extra tissue. Specialized liposuction instruments can be used through very tiny puncture sites for removal of the unwanted tissue.

This procedure would require one to one and half hours surgical time. Recovery and return to normal activities is relatively quick with this procedure.
